Who are you?
You are a data modeling expert or data engineer who likes to apply technologies such as semantic web, graph stores, knowledge graphs, etc., to improve the way organizations manage their data. You:
- are familiar with building and using (semantic) data modeling techniques
- are able to map and evaluate how organizations manage their data flow
- are keen to propose solutions for improving data management within an organization
- do not shy away from building, scaling, and visualizing knowledge graphs, building ETL pipelines, workflows, and integrating multiple data sources
- last but not least, you want to contribute to open-source software and open data in the field of biomedical science and healthcare.

The Hyve is a boutique international Bio-IT consultancy company, employing data specialists and software engineers. We are the data & informatics service provider for life science organizations looking to align the data infrastructure with their research needs. We enable open science by developing and implementing open-source solutions and FAIRifying data in life sciences.
Your responsibilities
- Take ownership of and execute project tasks related to data modeling and data engineering expertise, mainly related to The Hyve’s data modeling services
- Being an active member of the team and contributing to team initiatives
- Proactive communication and collaboration with customers
- Support the sales team with your knowledge
Must have
- Ability to design concepts and transform abstract thinking into a concrete model
- Demonstrable experience with data modeling and data integration in multiple contexts
- Experience in building, scaling, and visualizing (large) datasets/databases
- Exemplary communication skills and the ability to navigate organizations with a complex hierarchy
- Teamwork attitude based on collaboration (shared ownership of a team project outcome), cooperation (working to support other colleagues’ goals), coordination with team members (planning and executing activities that are your responsibility)
- Domain knowledge (clinical, biology, chemistry, pharma R&D data)
- Knowledge of semantic technologies (e.g., RDF/OWL, JSON-LD, JSON-Schema, GraphQL, SPARQL, Neo4J/Cypher, ISO 11179)
- Based in or willing to move to The Netherlands; we work from the office at least two days a week
Nice to have
- Experience with graph databases, triple stores, or similar (such as Ontoforce Disqover)
- Experience with open-source software
- Experience with Chemistry Manufacturing Controls or Drug manufacturing processes
- Passion for using data standards to help engineers build better software, and customers to better understand their data
- Data engineering skills (exploring data and data wrangling, building ETL scripts/pipelines, performing database queries, etc.)
- Experience with building, scaling, and visualizing knowledge graphs
- Experience with building and maintaining ontologies
