The Hyve Joins GREG Consortium to Advance Real-World Evidence in Healthcare

We’re excited to share that The Hyve has joined the GREG Consortium — a major European initiative supported by the Innovative Health Initiative (IHI JU). The project officially kicked off in May 2025 and will run for five years with a total budget of €26.2 million.

What is the GREG Consortium?

GREG (Guidance and Tools for Real World Evidence Generation and Use for Decision-Making in Europe) is a public-private partnership aimed to improve how Real-World Evidence (RWE) is generated and used to support the development and evaluation of medicines, medical devices, and drug-device combinations. To achieve this, it unites the expertise of 20 partners across 15 countries.

Why Real-World Evidence Matters

Real-World Evidence is generated from Real-World Data (RWD) — health-related data collected outside the context of traditional clinical trials. This includes electronic health records, hospital databases, registries, and other routinely collected healthcare information.

RWE plays an important role in shaping the future of healthcare. It helps researchers and decision-makers better understand how treatments perform in real-life settings, beyond the controlled environment of clinical trials. This can lead to the development of new therapies, the fine-tuning of existing treatments, and more targeted, effective use of medicines and medical devices.

By using this data effectively, the GREG project aims to support regulatory and Health Technology Assessment (HTA) bodies in making better-informed decisions for public health.

GREG’s Impact on Healthcare Innovation in Europe

The GREG initiative is designed to deliver real change in how healthcare decisions are made, by focusing on three key impact areas:

  • Better informed decision-making using RWD and RWE, contributing to smarter allocation of healthcare resources.
  • Faster market entry for effective medicines, devices, and combination products.
  • Improved patient access to innovative healthcare technologies across diverse European health systems.

A Collaborative Effort with Broad Expertise

Led by Erasmus University Medical Center (The Netherlands), Novo Nordisk (Denmark), and Sanofi (France), the GREG Consortium includes a wide range of stakeholders: academic institutions, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), non-profit organizations, health professionals, HTA bodies, and leading pharmaceutical and medical device companies.

The Hyve’s role in the GREG Consortium

At The Hyve, we are proud to contribute our expertise in health data infrastructure, interoperability, and open science to support the success of the GREG initiative.

We are actively involved in the Real-World Data and Federated Analytics work, where our key responsibility is to support the harmonisation, improvement, enrichment, and cataloguing of the GREG data partners. Specifically, we are the OMOP experts, helping partners transform their data into high-quality, standardised formats.

By ensuring that high-quality, well-structured real-world data is available, we aim to facilitate impactful analytics that will strengthen the evidence base for healthcare decision-making throughout Europe.
