In the heart of West Africa, where the sun-kissed fields of Benin are lined with cashew trees, something special is happening. These trees aren’t just producing cashews—they capture carbon, support local farmers, and build a more sustainable future.
At The Hyve, we believe technology, sustainability, and community impact go hand in hand. That’s why we are proud to contribute to Cashew Captures Carbon in Benin. Developed by Away4Africa and implemented by Fenapab and local farmers in Benin, this initiative transforms cashew farming into a climate-positive solution, sequestering carbon while empowering local communities. The Hyve has committed to support this project for the next five years.
Sequestering Carbon While Supporting Farmers
By embracing sustainable farming practices, the initiative uses innovative methods to measure biomass growth and carbon capture. Data collected by farmers is verified through FarmerLink and earth observation technology, ensuring transparency and scientific accuracy. With the potential to offset 13,750 tons of CO₂ in annual net emissions, and involving 5,000 cashew farmers, the impact is both environmental and economic, boosting farmers’ incomes by an average of 9% on top of their regular cashew revenues.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) We’re Supporting
This project supports four key ONU Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), helping to create a better world for people and the planet:
- No Poverty (Goal 1): By providing farmers with new skills and increased income, the project helps alleviate poverty and creates sustainable livelihoods.
- Decent Work and Economic Growth (Goal 8): By empowering farmers with improved skills and better financial stability, the project drives economic growth at the local level.
- Responsible Consumption and Production (Goal 12): The project promotes sustainable farming practices, reducing waste and conserving resources to ensure long-term environmental sustainability.
- Climate Action (Goal 13): By sequestering 45 tons of CO₂ every year, the project directly contributes to mitigating climate change and reducing global carbon emissions.
The Hyve’s Contribution: Real Impact for Local Communities
The Hyve’s support has already made a difference for 15 farming families in Benin, helping them strengthen their financial security and adopt improved agricultural practices. Across 28 hectares, 3,375 cashew trees are now capturing 45 tons of CO₂ annually—precisely offsetting The Hyve’s emissions from business travel and commuting. The CO₂ emission related to the use of The Hyve’s office, a multi-tenant building with Breeam’s excellent rating, is already compensated by the landlord HNK.

Let’s Grow a Greener Future Together
At the heart of this initiative is a simple truth: when we invest in nature, we invest in people.
If your organization is looking for meaningful ways to offset carbon emissions while supporting communities, we invite you to be part of the change. Let’s grow a greener future together!
